According to CNN, a sad explosion near the Dominican Republic’s capital has resulted in a devastating loss of life, with the death toll currently standing at a minimum of 12 deaths.

According to the national health agency, among the first casualties were a four-month-old newborn and two adults.

Following the explosion in a business establishment in San Cristobal, located to the west of the nation’s capital, Santo Domingo, 65 people were injured, and at least 55 people are still missing.

According to the Red Cross, three structures completely collapsed as a result of the blast near a shopping mall.

President Luis Abinader voiced concern over the situation and stated he is closely monitoring developments in remarks from the National Palace on Monday, according to public broadcaster RTVD’s Central 4 Noticias.

According to emergency services, Abinader ordered the activation of emergency services, including 20 ambulances and 14 firetrucks, to respond to the event.
