Sam Asghari, Britney Spears’ husband, has announced that the couple has decided to discontinue their “journey together” after 14 months of marriage.
Mr Asghari, 29, and Ms Spears, 41, stated “irreconcilable differences” in a divorce suit filed on Wednesday and obtained by BBC News.
The couple married in a tiny but star-studded event in June 2022 after becoming engaged in September 2021.
Rumours of their marital problems surfaced in US headlines this year.
Ms Spears became a global sensation at the age of 16 when her song…Baby One More Time was published. Her subsequent hits included Toxic, Womanizer, and Oops!…I Did It Again.

Mr Asghari wrote on Instagram, “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.”
“We will keep the love and respect we have for each other, and I will always wish her the best.”
“Stuff occurs.
“Asking for privacy seems ridiculous [sic], so I’ll just ask that everyone, including the media, be kind and considerate.”
Ms Spears’ representatives have yet to comment.
In a Wednesday night Instagram post to her 42 million fans, the performer did not address the divorce, instead saying that she was “buying a horse soon.”
Mr Asghari filed a dissolution of marriage case in Los Angeles County Superior Court, requesting that Ms Spears pay spousal maintenance and attorneys’ fees.
In 2016, the Iranian-American actor, model, and fitness trainer met Ms Spears while she was filming the music video for her song Slumber Party.
He was an outspoken supporter of her efforts to remove her father Jamie’s conservatorship, which she achieved just months before their wedding.
Last year, at the superstar’s house in Thousand Oaks, California, they married in an intimate and opulent ceremony attended by superstars such as Paris Hilton, Madonna, and Drew Barrymore.
The couple had just been spotted in public sans their wedding rings.
The split comes as Ms Spears prepares to release her memoir, The Woman in Me, in October.
Her third marriage has come to an end.
In 2004, she married childhood friend Jason Alexander in Las Vegas for 55 hours before annulling the marriage at the insistence of her management team.
Mr Alexander, who was pictured taking part in a pro-Trump brawl at the US Capitol in Washington DC in January 2021, attempted to crash Ms Spears’ wedding to Mr Asghari just hours before they married.
He’s been charged with trespassing, vandalism, and two charges of battery, and he’s been ordered by the court to stay away from her.
From 2004 to 2007, Ms Spears was married to rapper Kevin Federline. Jayden James and Sean Preston, Mr Federline’s two children, remain in his sole care.
