Landing of Chandrayaan-3 and Live Updates: The Chandrayaan-3 landing module dubbed ‘Vikram’ is set to come down in the Moon’s South Pole on Wednesday evening, August 23, in a historic first.
The anticipation for the landing, which is slated for 6:04 p.m., has grown, with special prayers being offered in various regions of the country. Several people online (including Indian politicians and celebrities) expressed their hope that everything goes smoothly.
On August 17, the Vikram lander successfully disengaged from the propulsion module and has been orbiting closer to the Moon while taking photographs of the far side of the surface.
If the mission is successful, India will be the first country to land a probe and investigate the Moon’s south pole area.
A few days ago, Russia’s Luna-25 collided with the Moon’s surface while attempting to land softly in the same area.
Only three other countries have successfully landed a rover on the Moon: Russia, China, and the United States.
According to reports, the Vikram landing module is named after the father of India’s space program, Vikram Sarabhai.
The Chandrayaan-3 rocket, which reportedly weighs roughly 3,900 kg, cost Rs 615 crore to manufacture and launch.
What Is on Board Chandrayaan-3?
What will Chandrayaan-3 do after it lands on the Moon, with the landing attempt expected in just a few hours? How will it carry out its responsibilities? What scientific payloads will it carry?
